Things to do in Santa Ysabel & Julian
Hiking:
1) Cedar Creek Falls. The falls, however, will not be flowing due to drought and the time of year. Regardless, it is a great day hike.
2) Cuyumaca State Park. The beautiful park offers camping and hiking in an oak woodland forest, with a sprinkling of pines and lovely meadows with creeks. There are over 100 miles of trails which accommodate hikers, bikers, and equestrians. Day use visitors may use the picnic areas provided at the campgrounds for $8 per vehicle. The receipt is good for the entire park for the day. The picnic areas offer tables, restrooms, and barbeques. Visitors may also park in legal turnouts along the highway and hike for free. The park is located approximately 50 miles east of San Diego on Highway 79. It is 15 miles south of the quaint historical town of Julian.
3) William Heise County Park. Day use picnic areas and more trails to hike around. From junction of Highway 79 & Pine Hills Road (1 mile west of the town of Julian), head 2 miles south on Pine Hills Rd. to Frisius Rd., then head east for 2 miles. 4945 Heise Park Road, Julian, CA 92036
Tours & Activities:
1) California Wolf Center. http://www.californiawolfcenter.org/ Fall and Winter hours (starting September 13, 2014 and ending May 2, 2015): Saturdays at 10 am and 2 pm; Sundays at 10 am. Check in time is half an hour before the scheduled start time. $20 for adults; $15 for seniors (55+), military (present ID at check in), students (present ID at check in), and children (12 and under).
2) Eagle and High Peak Gold Mine. Visitors have the opportunity to step back in time into a real Gold Mine dug out of a mountain with picks and shovels more than a hundred years ago. Visitors are led through a tour of a level of tunnels in the mountain while being given a comprehensive explanation of the mining process. Cost is $10/person for adults with a discounted rate for children. Hours for the Gold Mine are from 9:00-2:00, and tours are led continuously throughout the day.

2) Dudley’s Bakery. Delicious bread and pastries, as well as sandwiches prepared to order. Open 8 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Less than 5 minutes down the hill from wedding venue. 30218 Hwy 78, Santa Ysabel.
3) Jeremy’s on the Hill. Fresh, seasonal, organic, local cuisine. Family owned and operated. Known as the best restaurant in Julian. Lunch 11am-4pm. Dinner 4-8p.m. 4354 Highway 78, Wynola, California.
Drink:
1) Nickel Beer Company. Local craft brewery. Tasting room is open 11:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Thursday & Friday and until 5:00 p.m. Sunday. They have 12 taps of house beer and often a cask conditioned beer too. Their fall special is an Apple Pie Ale.
